A skeleton watch is not just a watch you can see inside. It is a mechanical watch that reveals its inner workings – without a filter. Gear wheels, balance wheels, springs, and movements are not hidden behind a closed dial, but are an active part of the design. You see time being created – second by second. And that is precisely why I personally fell in love with skeleton watches.
When I started developing Borgvardt Core Line, I knew I wanted to create a modern skeleton watch, that both respected classic watchmaking craftsmanship and had a distinct, contemporary identity. Coreline is a mechanical skeleton watch, created for enthusiasts who don't just want to know the time — they want to see it happen.
There are no hidden layers or closed surfaces. The entire heart of the watch is on display – honest, raw, and alive. For me, skeleton watches symbolize the most honest form of watch design: you can't hide anything. The quality must be right. The finish, edges, balance, and symmetry must work together perfectly.
At Coreline, I wanted to create more than just a watch. I wanted to create a visual expression that you feel as much as you see it. Every opening in the work, every shape, every glimpse of the mechanics has been carefully considered as part of the whole. It is a watch created for curious eyes, passionate conversations, and for those who truly love mechanical watches.
The inspiration for Coreline clearly traces back to 1970s — especially the integrated chain, the striking steel surfaces, and the confident shape. From this grew the vision of a watch that feels both timeless and modern, while also carrying a strong identity as Danish microbrand.
For me, a skeleton watch is not just technology. It is mechanical poetry. And Coreline is my interpretation of how a modern mechanical skeleton men's watch should feel today.
